I was born in Scranton, PA, in 1961, and lived in Upstate New York for most of my childhood. I came from a musical family, and only dabbled in art into college. My first drawings were crude AD&D character sketches in 1980, which I improved upon by taking several figure drawing courses in college.
I started exhibiting at Noreascon III, with science fiction and fantasy humor and erotica, and took a couple of workshops with Robin Wood and Mark Ferrarri. From Mark I got, "Gee I thought this was an intellectual exercise. I didn't think I would be helping the competition.
I got into BDSM art in an odd way. I had met Cecilia Tan at Noreascon III at the midnight "Is there too much sleazy sex and nasty death in the SF/F genre?" panel. (Since the panel was populated by Vampire authors the answer was "no".) She modeled for me and was social for me for a while. We lost touch as we both moved around, but eventually I called her up to see how things were going and to get together.
Me: "Hi Ctan. Long time no see, how about you and yours and me and mine get together sometime?"
Her: "Sorry PD, I can can't I'm real busy self-publishing my first book... hey wait! you're an artist! I need a cover in 3 weeks. Do you think you could do that?"
Me: "Sure. Tell me about it."
Her: "Well, it's science fiction"
Me: "No problem there."
Her: "It's erotica."
Me: "You've modeled for me, you know I can do that."
Her: "It's... errr.. Sadomasochism Bondage and Discipline."
Me: "Hmmmm, tricky to find the right model on such short notice, but OK."
As it turned out it wasn't at all tricky to find a model, and I delivered the cover on time and on budget.
Ctan published her first book, Telepaths Don't Need Safewords and started Circlet Press. I've done another cover for her too.
Since then I've become an Alexandrian Wiccan Priest, in the greater Boston area and expanded into polytheistic faith based art as well. I have been featured in several Fanzines, some bondage magazines, some pagan magazine, and I exhibit at various Sci Fi Conventions. I have been experimenting with new directions in my art and have become a bondage rigger with an artistic eye.
I currently live in Southeastern Massachusetts with my ball python, Baldrick and my Red Tailed Boa, Ophelia. Black Adder fans will understand the reference as the latter's intellectual capacity is diminished, even by the extremely low standard of snakes in general.
